EDUCATING YOUR SHOP STEWARDS

THE OBJECTIVES OF THIS WORKSHOP:
The objective of this workshop is to empower the selected Shop Stewards within the Company to ensure that they have a sound understanding of their roles and functions at the workplace and to ensure that they can carry out those roles and functions within the context of the employment laws that exist in South Africa.
The primary focus of any Shop Steward is to give the Union members who they represent a professional service and by successfully completing this programme this can be achieved.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Elected Shop Stewards within the workplace.
LENGTH OF WORKSHOP:
This is a 2- day workshop – start and end times per day can be flexible and In line with clients operations
VENUE:
This workshop can be run virtually or in house at client’s premises.
ONCE THE DELEGATES HAVE ATTENDED THE WORKSHOP THEY WILL BE ABLE TO
- Know the background to Labour Legislation in South Africa.
- Have a practical understanding of the Employment Laws in South Africa.
- Understand the functions and structures of Trade Unionism in South Africa.
- Understand the Shop Steward’s role and function at the workplace.
- Understand and constructively participate in workplace grievance, poor performance and disciplinary processes.
- Understand the South African dispute resolution mechanisms.
- Be able to apply negotiation skills effectively within the workplace.
- Facilitate effective interaction with management.
- Know different approaches to handling conflict at the workplace.
- Know how to handle unfair dismissal and unfair labour practice disputes at the CCMA or the Bargaining Council.
