PREVENTING & MANAGING HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE

OBJECTIVES OF THIS WORKSHOP:
The purpose of this workshop is to assist in the understanding of the amended legislation (in effect from March 2022) within the Employment Equity Act (1998 EA), specifically that harassment of an Employee is a form of unfair discrimination.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
This workshop is aimed at Managers, Supervisors and Human Resources specialists that are tasked with managing and motivating an employee’s performance.
LENGTH OF WORKSHOP:
This is a one – day workshop.
VENUE:
This workshop can be run virtually or in house at client’s premises.
THE OUTLINE FOR THE WORKSHOP IS AS FOLLOWS:
The New Code. Split into 2 parts:
Part 1: On the Substantive Issues
- To whom does the new Code apply?
- How has the emphasis changed from sexual harassment to harassment in general?
- How is unwanted conduct defined?
- Vanous types of harassment explained
Part 2: On the Procedural Issues
(This part of the code creates certain obligations that Employers must follow in order to eliminate and manage harassment within the workplace.)
- The EA already places an obligation on the Employer to take remedial steps to prevent all forms of harassment
- Conducting risk assessments
- Â Employers should adopt zero tolerance towards harassment
- Implementation of harassment policy
- How to implement and maintain awareness among Employees
- Procedures must be clear and accessible to Employees
- What can the Employer do to offer assistance to victims?
- Confidentiality what does the Code say?
